Top 5 Hawaii High School Football Games to Watch in 2025

Hawaii may not field as many high school football teams as some of the bigger states on the mainland, it continues to be a great source of entertaining gridiron action – not to mention talent for the nation’s top college programs. But not all games are created equal and there are definitely highlights and lowlights on each team’s 2025 slate. Here are the five most significant games on the 2025 Hawaii high school football schedule:
1. Kahuku at Mater Dei (Calif.) – Sept. 5
Not only will this be a measuring stick game for Kahuku, but it will also be an opportunity for the Red Raiders to carry the flag for Hawaii high school football against powerhouse Mater Dei. The Red Raiders have much to prove after losing the Open Division state championship to Saint Louis last season. What better way to turn heads than going to California and beating the nation’s top-ranked high school team on the road? .
2. Saint Louis at Mililani – Sept. 6
Saint Louis pulled off an upset against Kahuku to claim the state crown last season. But the team won’t be able to rest on its laurels very long this fall as Mililani, the state’s No. 2 team, looms on the front end of their 2025 schedule. The Crusaders are ranked right behind the Trojans, making this a must-see matchup early in the Hawaii high school football season between two in-state powers.
3. Saint Louis at St. John Bosco – Sept. 19
The Crusaders won’t get much respite after their matchup against Mililani as they’ll hit the road to face mainland power St. John Bosco, the nation’s fifth-best team, in mid-September. There will be a lot of eyes on St. Louis quarterback, and Cal commit, Nainoa Lopes as he tries to steer the Saint Louis offense to victory against a defense stacked with talent.

4. Mililani at Campbell – Sept. 27
Revenge will be on the Trojans’ mind when they travel to Campbell this fall as the Sabers were just one of two teams to win at Mililani last season. If the Trojans are to avenge that setback, they’ll have to stack up plays against a Campbell defense that features two Div. I commits in Trehsyn Fesili (UNLV) and Isaiah Chong (Sacramento State).
5. Mililani at Kahuku – Oct. 10
These teams met three times last year, with the Red Raiders winning twice. One of those victories came in the Open Division semifinals, with Kahuku eking out a narrow 8-6 victory to advance to the state title game.
Their matchup in October should be another low-scoring affair as both teams feature some of the best defensive talent that Hawaii high school football has to offer. The Red Raiders will field college commits on all three levels with edge rusher Nui Meyers (Idaho), linebackers Talanoa Ili (USC) and Malaki Soliai-Tui (UCLA) and Madden Soliai (UCLA) in the secondary. The Trojans, meanwhile, will lean on their ferocious defensive front headlined by linemen Ejay Tapeni and Trison Satele and linebacker Toa Satele.
