Travis Roland dismissed as head football coach at Camden County (Ga.)

After just two seasons at the helm, Camden County (Ga.) has decided to go in another direction with their high school football program.
According to a media release by the Wildcats on X, the school announced on Wednesday morning that Travis Roland has been relieved of his duties effective immediately. Roland finished with a 13-8 record over the course of two seasons leading Camden County.
“Camden County Schools has made the decision to take a new direction in the leadership of the Camden County High School football program. Superintendent Dr. Tracolya Green has relieved Coach Travis Roland of his duties as Head Football Coach, effective immediately. This decision follows a careful review of the football program and thoughtful conversations with school and district leaders. This was a difficult decision and one that was not made lightly,” said Dr. Green. “As a district, our goal is always to do what is best for our students, our schools, and our community. Camden County Schools thanks Coach Roland for his dedication and contributions to the program and wishes him continued success in his future endeavors. The district will begin the process of selecting a new Head Football Coach immediately.“
Roland acknowledged the change in a social media post on Instagram this morning, less than two weeks after the Wildcats’ regular season finale, a 24-21 win over Tift County on Halloween. Here is an excerpt of what Roland said via his post on Instagram about his dismissal from Camden County.
“Two years ago, after much reflection and prayer, I made a decision to leave my hometown and venture into the land that EVERY coach in America wants to experience, South Georgia! There is no doubt that God led me to accept the challenge of becoming the Head Football Coach at Camden County High School!
I will never forget the packed stadium and support on Friday Nights! I will never forget being a part of the ORIGINAL “Blue Dawn!” I will always cherish how hardworking the young men in this community are!
I am proud of what we accomplished! I am proud of the work we did! We signed 14 student-athletes to scholarships in the class of 2025, and we currently have 3 student-athletes prepared to sign early! We will without a doubt hit double digit players again this year!
Wins and losses are the standard, but it is also my standard to put my young men in a position to have success beyond high school.“
In three seasons at Mainland (Fla.), Roland compiled an overall record of 30-10, leading the Buccaneers to Florida’s Class 3S state championship over St. Augustine in 2023.

Roland had huge shoes to fill when he accepted the job back in February, 2024, attempting to replace the legendary Jeff Herron, who won 334 games and five state championships during his time with the Wildcats. Herron totaled 30 playoff appearances during his time at Camden County from 1989-2023.
