Virginia Top 25

The high school football season continued in Virginia last week, as many of the top programs in the Old Dominion were in action. Plenty of interesting results followed.

Another jam-packed slate is on deck as teams continue their quests for a state title. Below are the top 25 Virginia high school football teams, according to the Massey Ratings, as of Oct. 21.

1. The St. James Academy Strivers

The Strivers took the top spot in the Virginia high school football rankings after pulling off a 41-40 victory over The First Academy, Florida’s 23rd-best team. More importantly, this victory kept St. James Academy undefeated through seven games. The Strivers can keep their perfect run by defeating Connecticut’s St. Thomas More on October 24.

2. Maury Commodores

The Commodores are back to their dominant form after limiting their last four opponents to six total points. What’s more impressive is their three consecutive shutout victories, including their 66-0 beatdown of I.C. Norcom. Maury raced to a 44-0 halftime lead before earning their sixth consecutive victory. The Commodores will travel to face Lake Taylor on October 24.

3. Benedictine Cadets

While the Cadets scored only 14 points against North Cross, it was enough to keep them undefeated in the 2025 Virginia high school football season. Benedictine held on to victory after the Raiders’ two-point conversion with four minutes left in regulation failed. The Cadets will face Woodberry Forest on October 25.

4. Riverbend Bears

The Bears remain undefeated following their 41-27 victory against Colonial Forge. Ian Shook ran for 159 rushing yards and two touchdowns, and threw a touchdown pass to Camden Simmons. Riverbend can improve to 8-0 by defeating Stafford on October 24.

5. Oscar Smith Tigers

The Tigers have won six in a row after a 68-7 blowout of Grassfield. This marks the third game they’ve limited an opponent to single-digit scoring. Oscar Smith will continue their 2025 Virginia high school football schedule with an October 24 road game against Nansemond River.
