Way-Too-Early Utah High School Football Top 25 Rankings

The Utah high school football season begins in six weeks, and anticipation is building across the Beehive State. With more than 100 teams competing across seven classifications, communities across the Rocky Mountains, Great Basin and Colorado Plateau are excited for the 2025 campaign to get underway. From established powers to emerging programs, here are the top teams in Utah, according to Massey.
The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.
1. Corner Canyon Chargers
Corner Canyon captured its second-consecutive Class 6A state championship last year with a victory over Lone Peak in the title game, avenging a 28-21 loss to the Knights earlier in the season. The victory pushed the Chargers’ record to a staggering 100-8 under coach Eric Kjar.
The return of star quarterback Helaman Casuga, a Texas A&M commit, is a big boon to Corner Canyon’s hopes for a three-peat. He will be protected in the pocket by USC pledge Esun Tafa, while future Minnesota Golden Gopher Kai Meza will be making plays for him in the pass game. Three-star safety Diesel Dart and edge rusher Manase Brown will anchor the Chargers’ defense.
2. Skyridge Falcons
Skyridge regressed a bit in 2024, exiting the playoffs in the semifinals a year after playing for the state title. The Falcons head into the fall focused on getting over the hump and winning the second championship in program history.
BYU commit Kaneal Sweetwyne returns to lead the team’s offense. He was one of the top quarterbacks in Utah as a junior and is in line for a big senior season. Minnesota pledge Mataalii Benjamin will keep Sweetwyne upright while Jernaro Gilford, Jr. is one of the top 2027 receivers in the state. Three-star Arizona commit Harvie Moeai is an athletic terror off the edge and should be a disruptive force up front for Skyridge.
3. Lone Peak Knights
Lone Peak took a big step forward last season, winning six more games than it did the year before, but fell just short of a state championship. If the Knights are going to continue that positive momentum, they’ll need to contend with a challenging schedule that includes an interstate matchup with national power Bishop Gorman (Nev.).

Making matters more difficult for Lone Peak will be the graduation of key contributors like Bear Tenney and Austin Pay. The return of starting quarterback Kepa Niumeitolu definitely helps, as does the presence of four-star offensive lineman Bott Mulitalo.
4. Lehi Pioneers
Lehi‘s loss to Corner Canyon in the semifinals of last year’s Class 6A playoffs will probably sting for a while. The Pioneers missed three PATs, including one in overtime, in the defeat.
Quarterback Jett Niu, linemen Toby Mealer and Tommy Olsen and cornerback Abe Jager will need to be adequately replaced if Lehi is to return to the Utah high school football mountaintop. Oklahoma State tight end commit Bryton Niu will serve as a security blanket in the passing game, while BYU pledge Penisimani Takitaki will make life difficult for opposing quarterbacks.
5. Timpview Thunderbirds
Timpview won its 12th state championship in 2023 but was unable to successfully defend its crown last fall. The Thunderbirds dominated Utah high school football from 2004-14, winning eight titles during that span, and are hoping that their 2023 triumph is the start a similar run.
Top-level talent won’t be an issue for Timpview this fall as the team boasts three players that rank among the state’s top 10 for their respective class. Four-star junior offensive lineman Ian Aloisio ranks No. 2 in Utah for the 2027 class, while Utah receiver commits Jaron and Kennan Pula rank No. 6 and No. 8 respectively in the 2026 class.
