Michigan never even got to the "offer" stage with him. We had sources in his camp — like, who talked to him daily and would have been here — who told us early in the process they were ready to go, were talking about which positions they were going to occupy here, etc. (GMs, etc.). Yesterday morning, that they were watching closely over the next several hours and didn't think DeBoer was going to take it, and they were "full steam ahead."
But as we wrote in yesterday's 3-2-1, the camps at Michigan seemed split on some of the candidates. He is one ... Fisch was obviously another after something came up in the vetting process. Then we heard 'Drinkwitz didn't impress in that process,' etc. And at some point you think, "are you guys really in a position to be that picky?" Which is kind of what we indicated in the column.
I think a lot of them were all in on Alabama losing and making DeBoer an offer he couldn't refuse, and then "hoping." Obviously, it didn't go the way they'd hoped. So, now they're left holding their ... well, offers ... and, at least at this point, looking stupid. Which, sadly, is no surprise.
But ... it's also not over yet. There's some talk they could go back to Fisch. I'd do that today and get it done, frankly. But Michigan gonna Michigan, as we've seen over the last few years (and especially few months). You've got people involved here who, frankly, shouldn't be anywhere near the program right now, and it creates messes.
Here's hoping for some holiday magic or something. We'll keep ears to the ground to see what comes next. And, as always, we'll take your (angry) questions.

I just don’t know how you go from “I’ve never felt better” to this…
(And by you I don’t mean you Chris literally. Just in general)

I'm about done with this. Its clear as day Michigan will never get out of its own way and quite frankly I can't keep doing this. Its New York Jets level of nonsense and incompetence.

@ChrisBalas if they had offered on Wednesday, do you think he’s here? I’m convinced we gave ASU time to hit the bar he had for them.

There are good coaches to be had out there. But shoot, that's a bummer.

Any chance they still send an offer to Dillingham? Definitely can offer more than what he got, and an extension doesn’t mean he can’t leave… (I know unlikely)

It was likely to end like this, all along. Anyone who thought otherwise, was foolish.

These people are complete morons. They’ll go back to Fisch then downplay their own leaks that he had background issues.
