Windsor (Colo.) four-star offensive tackle Deacon Schmitt is down to three schools, he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett on Thursday.

Schmitt canceled remaining official visits to USC, Tennessee and Nebraska, and he will choose between Colorado, Oklahoma and Alabama on June 28. Each of the three schools left have hosted him for official visits over the past month and will now await his decision in a little less than three weeks.

The 6-foot-5, 310-pounder is the No. 362 overall prospect in the 2026 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks as the nation’s No. 29 offensive tackle and the No. 1 recruit in the state of Colorado.

The in-state Buffaloes are hoping to keep the state’s top recruit home for the first time since 2017, and they made a big impression during his trip to Boulder last month.

“The environment is always a blast!” Schmitt told On3’s Steve Wiltfong. “Growing up in Colorado, I have been around Boulder a lot! The opportunity to become a hometown hero is very special to me. I love CU in general. Everyone there is awesome and they are working on something very special! Love all the OL coaches as well. They’re definitely a great school that I have a lot of love for.”

But they’ll have to fight off two traditional powerhouses to do it. The Sooners had him on campus for his fifth visit over the weekend, and the entire staff made him feel like a top priority.

“OU, it’s definitely one of my top choices for sure. It’s a school that is built on family values. It seems like brotherhood and that’s important. It’s not all ball, [because] eventually football is over, it’s definitely important to have that kind of thing in your corner,” he told SoonerScoop. “The staff there is great, it’s SEC football at the end of the day.”

The Crimson Tide, meanwhile, were sandwiched in between those trips. And the history of the program, as well as the relationships he has built with the coaching staff, are second-to-none in his mind.

“They loved it as well. It’s Alabama at the end of the day. They got to see that legacy that they bring in full action this weekend. We saw everything, it was incredible,” Schmitt told BamaOnLine. “Something that really stuck out to me was the strength staff and how much data goes into training these guys. It’s just O-line doing this workout and receivers doing this workout, it’s very customized to each person based on data they collect throughout the whole process.”
