The Georgia Bulldogs are set to host the Alabama Crimson Tide this weekend. Once again, this is a game that has a chance to shape the race in the SEC. This will also represent a game that the Bulldogs have been looking for answers in for years now.

Certainly, Alabama is a team that former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray is consistently aware of on the schedule. After all, as he explained to Greg McElroy on Always College Football, the Crimson Tide have and continue to be a problem for the Bulldogs.

“I would say yes because there is an Alabama problem,” Aaron Murray said. “I still think there is. You can go back to that national championship, and who knows what would have happened if [Jameson] Williams doesn’t go down with the ACL. So, I think Georgia had a great team that year. Obviously, lost to Alabama in that SEC Championship Game. Found a way to come back and redeem it for a national championship.”

This stretch of struggles goes back to an early blackout game against Alabama. In 2008, Alabama went Between the Hedges and knocked off a Georgia team with championship aspirations. Aaron Murray was there for that game as a recruit. It would also represent an early Nick Saban team asserting its dominance in this rivalry.

“I’m throwing myself under the bus here too. It just has not been good against Alabama since, what? 2008? And I believe they’re doing a blackout again. It’s funny. That was my first game as a recruit. I went to Athens, and we had all these big-time recruits there. All these five-stars. Everyone, I remember at halftime, coming up to me, like Marlon Brown — five-star receiver. We still found a way to keep him,” Murray said. “But he was like, ‘What is going on with the Dawgs?’ I’m like, ‘I don’t know,’ and from there you guys obviously took off and no looking back for Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide. So, I don’t know why Georgia is going with the blackout to hopefully not repeat what happened back then.”

Since 2007, or the season Nick Saban took over at Alabama, the Crimson Tide are 9-2 against Georgia. Notably, each team has won a national championship head-to-head against one another. It also includes an Alabama win over Georgia last season, when Kalen DeBoer had replaced Nick Saban, implying that the Crimson Tide are still a hump to get over for the Bulldogs.

“But yeah, there’s still an Alabama problem. There’s 100 percent an Alabama problem. I felt way more confident last year for Georgia going into Tuscaloosa, on the road,” Murray said. “Than what I do now with Georgia hosting Alabama.”

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST on Saturday, September 27th. The hope for Georgia is to get over the hump there and earn their first win against Alabama in Sanford Stadium since 2003.
