Things got a little heated between AJ McCarron and a Florida State fan this week prior to a game between the Seminoles and Alabama. McCarron, a former Crimson Tide quarterback, joined the set at CBS to discuss the matchup pregame but got an earful from an FSU fan.

The former Alabama QB said for the most part the fans were respectful to him, but there was just one that wouldn’t stop. Eventually, it ended up getting the best of him leading to an intense reaction.

“It just gives people an avenue to think that their opinion matters or that they can say whatever,” McCarron explained in a recent appearance on the McCready and Siskey podcast. “When I was at CBS, Florida State had a fan. Listen, everybody at Florida State was respectful. It was good banter back and forth, just a little bit of sh*t talking. But one kid took it a little too far.

“I ended up hopping down from the desk and I said, ‘Say it again and I’m gonna smack your f***ing lips off.’ He wouldn’t say it to my face. It’s those kind of people that are on f***ing social media. The kid started backing up. I was about to get kicked out of CBS already.”

Of course, it would be the Seminoles that ultimately got the better of Alabama in a 31-17 victory to open the season. That likely didn’t help make McCarron’s day any better after the interaction with the fan.

The conversation came amid McCarron discussing the overreaction on social media as it related to Texas quarterback Arch Manning and his performance against Ohio State. It’s still unclear what was said to him by the Florida State fan, but it just goes to show the type of thing athletes or people in the public eye have to deal with.

AJ McCarron questions whether Arch Manning can live up to hype, family comparison

McCarron also weighed in on Arch Manning this week. The Texas QB and nephew of former NFL quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning, Arch was hyped as the next big thing in college football by many pundits.

But after the Longhorns lost 14-7 against Ohio State to open the season, public opinion has started to swing in the opposite direction. There’s no shortage of opposing fan bases who want to pile on after the lackluster performance, and many of them are taking aim at Manning.

AJ McCarron appeared on The Dynasty podcast, where he explained that he felt for Manning and the criticism that he was receiving. He thinks a lot of it has to do with the lofty expectations that were placed on him to come in and be a star right away.

“I feel bad for Arch,” the former Alabama QB said. “The hype is just set at such a high level to where I don’t know if the kid can ever live up to it. With the day and age we live in of social media, they already had the memes coming out at halftime against him talking about he was adopted and all kind of crazy stuff. It’s his first start — or his first big-time start of a full season ahead.

“I think Arch had 56 yards passing going into the fourth quarter. Matt Patricia, the new defensive coordinator for Ohio State, made a ton of different looks. Confused him. He looked confused a bunch during the game throwing off his back foot, kinda holding the ball too long. But listen, the kid will be better. Both of those teams are for real. They’ve got really good defenses. I just hate it for the kid because the media has built his hype up so high, I just don’t know how you can be successful with it.”
