The Big 12 is less than three weeks out from tipping off its basketball season on November 3rd. The Preseason Poll has now been released for the league ahead of that debut.

On Thursday morning, the Big 12 posted the results of its preseason poll with each team slotted from 1-16. It also came with the release of the Preseason All-Big 12 Teams, including Preseason Big 12 Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, and Freshman of the Year.

Here are the results of the preseason poll ahead of Big 12 Media Days next week on Tuesday (10/21) and Wednesday (10/22):

  1. Houston (14) – 224
  2. BYU (1) – 204
  3. Texas Tech – 200
  4. Arizona (1) – 179
  5. Iowa State – 170
  6. Kansas – 163
  7. Baylor – 137
  8. Cincinnati – 120
  9. Kansas State – 117
  10. TCU – 90
  11. West Virginia – 79
  12. Oklahoma State – 77
  13. Utah – 50
  14. UCF – 39
  15. Colorado – 37
  16. Arizona State – 34

Houston, BYU, Texas Tech, Arizona, Iowa State, and Kansas were the top six teams in votes for the conference, with each separated by 60 points. The Cougars, though, are the significant favorite at No. 1 in the league with 14 of the 16 first-place votes, with Brigham Young and Arizona also receiving a first-place vote apiece, from around the Big 12. The Red Raiders are also thought highly of as they finished in third without receiving any of those first-place votes.

The Big 12 is coming off a campaign where seven teams made the 2025 NCAA Tournament. Those six were in the top half of the bracket as far as seeding while the Baylor Bears were at No. 9.

Four of those seven — No. 1 Houston, No. 3 Texas Tech, No. 4 Arizona, and No. 6 BYU — made the Sweet 16, as the Red Raiders made it to the Elite Eight and the Cougars made it to the national title game. Both lost to the eventual national champions in the Florida Gators. Their conference also had the best winning percentage of any in March Madness, as its teams, with six of their seven winning at least one game, went 14-7 (.667).

The Big 12 should be in for another great season, with several contenders in the league as each of those top-six again are in the Top 25 in the Preseason AP Poll. That includes three in the Top 10 in No. 2 Houston, No. 8 BYU, and No. 10 Texas Tech. We’ll start to know for certain in the next few weeks, too, once these teams take the court starting in November.
