Michigan and Iowa last squared off in the 2021 Big Ten Championship game, which the Wolverines won 42-3.

Both teams are coming off thrilling victories during rivalry week. Michigan had a 14-10 lead at halftime as both defenses held strong through the first two quarters. In the second half, though, Ohio State made things interesting when TreVeyon Henderson found the end zone to tie things up at 17-17 in the third quarter. But Blake Corum ran in his second touchdown of the day to put the Wolverines back on top 24-17, and James Turner’s fourth-quarter field goal made it a two-score game.

Marvin Harrison Jr. found the end zone after that to make it a 27-24 Michigan lead with 8:05 to play, and Ohio State got the ball with 1:05 left to try and march down the field. A Kyle McCord interception sealed it. Michigan got its third straight victory over Ohio State, accomplishing that feat for the first time since the 1990s.

As for Iowa, the Hawkeyes went down to the wire against Nebraska in the Heroes Game. It ultimately came down to a 38-yard field goal from Marshall Meeder, who wasn’t the starting kicker, and Iowa pulled off the 13-10 victory.

Hawkeyes head coach Kirk Ferentz was very emotional following the win.

“Just really excited for our guys. They’ve been really resilient. (Ethan) Hurkett gets a pick, the defensive lineman gets a pick. And then an unsung guy comes out and kicks a field goal. It’s kind of representative of this team,” a teary-eyed Ferentz said. “Somehow, someway, we’ve won 10 games and it’s pretty good.

“It’s hard to win – first and foremost. It speaks to the kind of kids we have. These guys are really fun to work with. They believe in themselves, believe in each other, care about each other. So it’s just really special.”
