Booger McFarland labels Marcel Reed Heisman darkhorse due to potential 'statement' games to end season

Two weeks remaining in the regular season, the Heisman Trophy race remains relatively open. Multiple players are making a case to appear in New York City but for the most part, a slam dunk winner has not emerged. Everyone remains searching for one, including ESPN’s Booger McFarland.
At the very least, McFarland has an idea of someone who could pop up as a dark horse candidate. Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed appears to be his guy. While Reed did not get much run on Saturday in a comfortable win over Samford, the Aggies are set to be in the national spotlight moving forward.

“You know, we get late in the season, we start talking about Heisman Trophy contenders,” McFarland said during halftime of the Arkansas–Texas game. “My darkhorse — Marcel Reed… Think about this. He’s got Texas and then the SEC Championship game. Talk about two big-time games where you can make a statement.”
Texas A&M does need a win over Texas to guarantee a ticket to Atlanta. However, if Reed plays like the Heisman dark horse McFarland expects him to, you can assume he is picking the Aggies to pull out of victory in Austin. From there, one of Alabama or Georgia is likely waiting on the other end.
