After exciting early and late-afternoon windows in Week 8 – not to mention a major upset on Friday – the college football rankings are sure to see a shift. But Booger McFarland knows which team should be No. 1.

McFarland put Ohio State in the top spot after the Buckeyes cruised past Wisconsin on Saturday. But he also put Indiana at No. 2, led by Fernando Mendoza as he looks to make his case for the Heisman Trophy.

From there, McFarland said it’s a bit unclear. But one thing’s for sure. He sees the Big Ten as the cream of the crop to this point.

“Ohio State should be No. 1. I think Indiana should be No. 2,” McFarland said on ABC ahead of Tennessee at Alabama. “And then, you’ve got to kind of figure out at that point, Texas A&M, where are we going to go? There’s a lot of teams that could fit right into that mix.

“But right now, supremacy’s in the Big Ten. Ohio State, Indiana – I think they should be 1-2.”

Ohio State didn’t leave any room for doubt in Saturday’s win over Wisconsin in Madison. Julian Sayin led the charge at quarterback with a monster performance, completing 36 of 42 passes for 394 yards and four touchdowns as the Buckeyes cruised to the 34-0 victory.

Ohio State, of course, also has a marquee victory on its resume from Week 1 as Buckeyes took down Texas at The Horseshoe. With a 7-0 record heading into next week’s game against Penn State, Ryan Day’s group could be looking at a path back to Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship.

Meanwhile, in Bloomington, Indiana isn’t showing signs of slowing down, either. Mendoza and the Hoosiers handled Michigan State with ease on Saturday, coming away with a 38-13 victory. The Cal transfer quarterback shined once again, completing 24 of 28 passes for 332 yards and four touchdowns to lead the charge for Curt Cignetti’s crew.

IU could be in position to capitalize on Friday’s monster upset at Hard Rock Stadium. Louisville held on to stun No. 2 Miami as the Cardinals capitalized on four Carson Beck interceptions – the first such game of the Georgia transfer’s career. It marks the Hurricanes’ first loss of the year, and in addition to changing the national title picture, it also had an impact on the race in the ACC.
