Booger McFarland reacts to Sherrone Moore firing: 'Its undefeated'
Booger McFarland said the quiet part out loud after the shocking news that Michigan had fired football coach Sherrone Moore. The Wolverines sent shockwaves through the college football world when it was reported Wednesday that Moore, who was in just his second season as head coach, was fired for cause after a 9-3 season.
The firing did not have to do with the results on the field, however, but rather that something happened off of it. Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel released a statement revealing that Moore allegedly had an “inappropriate relationship” with a staff member.
That led to a humorous reaction from McFarland on social media. He didn’t have to say much to get his joke in and point across.
“Its undefeated,” McFarland wrote on X.
Moore had been the coach since 2024 after previously serving as offensive coordinator from 2021-23. He took over following the Wolverines’ national championship win in 2023 after Jim Harbaugh left to become the coach of the Los Angeles Chargers.
After going 8-5 in Moore’s first season, the Wolverines ended the regular season at 9-3 this year. He missed two games this season due to a suspension, during which Biff Poggi served as head coach. Poggi is also slated to serve as the interim when the Wolverines play Texas in the Citrus Bowl.

Either way, it was certainly surprising news to come out of Ann Arbor and now the speculation as to what exactly happened is high. Hopefully we’ll get more details soon as the Wolverines begin their search for their next coach.
Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel releases statement on Sherrone Moore firing
Shortly after the news broke, Manuel addressed the matter in a statement. He revealed that the school launched an investigation to verify the claims of the relationship and found “credible evidence” to support it.
“U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately,” Manuel said in a statement. “Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior. Biff Poggi has been appointed head football coach in an interim capacity, effective immediately.”
