LSU is nursing some key injuries ahead of a pivotal SEC matchup against Florida on Saturday. And the status of offensive lineman Braelin Moore looms large.

Moore suffered an ankle injury in a game against Louisiana Tech last week, exiting the contest and failing to reappear. The Tigers, of course, were being cautious with him.

But it appears that Braelin Moore might be in good enough shape to suit up against Florida this weekend. Coach Brian Kelly provided an update on the SEC teleconference call on Wednesday morning.

“I think we have him listed as probable,” Kelly said. “If not, I’ll double check, maybe he’s questionable. But he did practice yesterday and we expect him to practice today.”

Braelin Moore is a transfer from Virginia Tech, where he was a two-year starter on the offensive line. He was one of a handful of players brought in to help shore up the line after a slew of departures from last year’s team.

Moore started 24 games in 28 appearances with the Hokies. He quickly won the starting center job at LSU this fall.

But during the Louisiana Tech game last Saturday, Braelin Moore turned his ankle early in the game. He did not return. That left LSU’s offensive line scrambling even more, and the Tigers simply haven’t been quite as efficient as they would have liked.

Kelly spoke to that lack of efficiency offensively on Wednesday, but he seemed to indicate it was a natural part of the unit’s progression early this year. He noted:

“I don’t have an answer to your question because I don’t know that this is a situation that requires a whole lot of thinking about,” Kelly said. “We lost some offensive linemen, we’re certainly building a relationship with our receivers. This is what it looks like as you build continuity within your offensive structure.

“We’re not pressing any alarm bells. It’s early in the season. Will we get better? Do we need to get better? Absolutely. But this is a process that we were committed to and knew that there was going to be some development that would need to take place.”
