Additional details have emerged regarding the hit-and-run incident involving Kyren Lacy prior to his death. LSU head coach Brian Kelly has since addressed these findings, which Lacy’s attorney argues can clear his name posthumously.

“I thought that this is a process that takes time,” Kelly said on Monday. “I think I said back when this occurred that let’s wait until all the information comes out. For us to make these universal statements early on it just doesn’t serve anybody well. I don’t have any facts. I’m following it just like you guys are. Let’s just be patient and make sure all of the information gets out.”

The incident took place last December, which resulted in the death of 78-year-old Herman Hall of Thibodaux, La. In February, Lacy’s attorney Matthew Ory released a statement noting that Lacy did not cause, or contribute to the crash. Ory has since obtained an investigative report that helps prove his statement.

According to the report, Ory said Lacy passed four cars, which police allege directly resulted in the crash. Now, data shows he was more than 90 yards behind Hall’s vehicle. At the time of impact, Lacy was greater than 70 yards behind the actual crash.

“However, he was back in his lane of travel 92.3 yards back in his lane behind Mr. Hall,” Ory told HTV’s Martin Folse. “At the time of impact, he’s 72.6 yards behind the vehicles at the time of impact. Key [words] – behind the vehicles. That is not how this story was ever painted. Never.”

In the wake of the incident, Lacy faced charges related to negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run and reckless driving. Police said in a press release at the time that he had been “illegally passing the other vehicles.”

This resulted in the “driver of a northbound pickup truck abruptly braked and swerved to the right to avoid a head-on collision with (Lacy’s) approaching Dodge.” He was accused of driving around the scene of the crash and fleeing without calling emergency services, or reporting his involvement in the crash.

The expectation were all charges would be dropped against the former LSU receiver. However, Lacy passed away prior to the hearing. Kelly continued, expressing the love him and his program have for their former player and teammate.

“He’s loved by us. He was loved before, and is loved after,” Kelly said. “There’s not really a need to talk to our team. They follow it. They love Kyren. He was a great teammate and is going to be missed.”
