Carson Beck compares replacing Cam Ward to following Stetson Bennett at Georgia

For the second time in his career, Carson Beck will be replacing a legendary college quarterback this season.
Beck finally took over the Georgia starting job in 2023 after back-to-back National Championship seasons, led by quarterback Stetson Bennett IV. Bennett was named the CFP National Championship Offensive MVP in both 2022 and 2023, was selected to the Second Team All-SEC in 2022 and was awarded the Manning Award and Burlsworth Award in 2022.
After two seasons in Athens, Beck transferred to Miami for his final season of college football. He’ll be replacing Cam Ward, who was selected No. 1 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. Ward was named the 2024 Davey O’Brien Award winner, 2024 Manning Award Winner and the 2024 ACC Player of the Year.
Beck compared replacing Cam Ward to Stetson Bennett on Tuesday at ACC Media Days.

“No not really,” Beck said. “Obviously his success is undeniable. Obviously i don’t know him very well. I’ve been able to meet him a couple of times. Obviously, I don’t wanna say proud because I don’t know him, but was he was able to do was undeniable. The last school I was at I followed up a two-time National Champion [Stetson Bennett], so i didn’t really feel any pressure there. It’s just a game man. I’ve played football since I was seven years old and it’s something that I love to do.
“I’ve got a lot of good talent and coaches and positions around me I think to help me not only achieve my goals but be very successful. Again, I’m really just looking forward to the opportunity to go out and play football again because i haven’t done it in a while. Haven’t done it in a while.”

In two seasons of play as Georgia‘s starting quarterback (2023 and 2024), Beck passed for 7,426 yards, 52 touchdowns and just 18 interceptions. Although he led the Bulldogs to a 23-3 record over that span, he was never able to play in a College Football Playoff game.
Georgia was knocked out of the Playoff with a loss to Alabama in the 2023 SEC Championship Game and Beck’s 2024 season came to an end following an injury in the 2024 SEC Championship Game.
With Beck at the helm, Miami will look to build on last season’s 10-3 record and make a push for the College Football Playoff this season. The Hurricanes open their 2025 campaign on August 31 against Notre Dame.
