Week 2 of college football didn’t disappoint. Some close games and a big week for one G5 conference led to a shakeup in the CBS Sports Top 25 — including a new No. 1.

Alabama fell out of the top spot after a rough showing against Texas despite a 20-19 win at DKR Texas Memorial Stadium. The Crimson Tide totaled more penalties than any other game in the Nick Saban Era and, as a result, dropped to No. 2 behind reigning national champion Georgia in the latest rankings.

BYU also notably moved into the top 10 following its big win over Baylor late Saturday night, jumping 21 spots from last week’s rankings. Kentucky was another big mover, jumping 23 spots to No. 10 after defeating Florida at The Swamp behind a big showing from Will Levis. Appalachian State, one of three Sun Belt teams to win this week, moved into the rankings after defeating Texas A&M.

CBS Sports’ top four teams lined up perfectly with the AP Top 25, in which Georgia received 53 of 60 first-place votes to leap-frog Alabama for the top spot. After the poll came out, Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart addressed moving up to No. 1 — and said his team isn’t worrying about the rankings. That’s for later in the season.

“It’s never a big deal. It only matters at the end of the year,” Smart said. “I don’t know that we’ve spent many weeks outside of the Top-10 and it never mattered whether we were inside the Top-10 or outside the Top-10. It just is irrelevant.”
