Virginia finds itself in a battle against Wake Forest at halftime, down four points. They spent time without quarterback Chandler Morris after he left the game due to a late hit when sliding. Morris immediately went back to the locker room and has not returned since.

Now, the status of Morris for the rest of the game is official. He will not get back on the field. Virginia will roll out there with Daniel Kaelin, who also joined the program this offseason via the NCAA transfer portal. A massive second half ahead for Virginia without its starting quarterback.

“UPDATE: UVA QB Chandler Morris will not return to tonight’s game against Wake,” Mike Barber of Cville Right Now said via X. “‘Hoos trail 10-6 at the half.”

When the ESPN broadcast came back from commercial and Virginia’s offense was walking on, Quint Kessenich confirmed things. Morris is out of the ballgame due to the injury.

Tony Elliott told UVA radio announcers that Chandler Morris will not return to this ball game today,” Kessenich said. “So, we’ll get to see Daniel Kaelin, a sophomore from Nebraska.”

Morris leaves the game with just 19 passing yards to his name. Three of his six throws were completed for a poor average of 3.2 yards per attempt. Only one rush finds itself on the stat sheet — the play where Morris got injured — for six yards.

Looking long-term, there are College Football Playoff implications involved with this Morris injury. Virginia is currently the highest-ranked team in the ACC at No. 14. If the 12-team field were set today, they would be in. In a scenario where getting an at-large bid might be difficult, UVA needs to keep its winning ways.

More on Chandler Morris, performance throughout 2025

Virginia might not be the first stop for Morris during his college football season but it will be his last. After starting out at OklahomaTCU and North Texas have also been considered home. Morris got the opportunity to play at the power conference level again in 2025 and chose UVA.

In nine games, Morris has thrown for 2,069 yards, 12 touchdowns, and five interceptions while completing 67% of his throws. Morris is known for his dual-threat ability as well, adding 208 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

Two games remain on the Virginia schedule after this one. First, a trip to Durham to face Duke before hosting Virginia Tech in a massive rivalry game.
