One day before the 2025 Men’s College World Series Final between Coastal Carolina and LSU gets underway, things are already spicy. And that’s thanks to the underdogs.

Coastal head coach Kevin Schnall and players Blake Barthol, Caden Bodine and Jacob Morrison discussed the upcoming matchup during Friday’s Men’s College World Series Pregame Championship presser. One reporter asked the Chanticleer players what they admire about their opponent, LSU, and Morrison left the whole room laughing with his answer.

“Not a whole lot,” Morrison said with a laugh. His teammate Blake Barthol quickly followed up with a “more respectful” response.

“We’re not really worried about the Tigers,” Barthol said. “We’re more just a self-oriented team. We focus on our team and our team only.”

The Chanticleers have won 26 consecutive games heading into the Final and have yet to lose a game in the NCAA Tournament so far. LSU has lost just one game in the Tournament (Little Rock in the Baton Rouge Regional) but is also undefeated in the Men’s College World Series with two wins over Arkansas and a win over UCLA.

“I’d say more than anything, we got closer,” said Morrison when discussing Coastal’s win streak. “The culture got better, and we decided that we’d rather win than lose. So we went on that crazy run.”

Morrison’s sophomore season has been nothing short of phenomenal, as the Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year boasts a stellar 12-0 record with a 2.08 ERA and 102 strikeouts in 104 innings. In 18 2/3 NCAA Tournament innings, the 6-foot-8 right-handed pitcher has allowed six earned runs with 18 strikeouts.

With sophomore right-handed pitcher Cameron Flukey starting Saturday’s opener against the Tigers, Morrison is lined up to start what could be a National Championship-clinching game two for Coastal.

“I think it’s something cherished,” Morrison responded when asked about being in Omaha with his teammates. “Especially being in a hotel for nine or ten days now. It’s really fun to be around these boys every day. More baseball means more time around them and we’re very close at this point. It’s very fun to be around these boys.”
