Former South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback great Connor Shaw had a major medical episode on Wednesday when he collapsed at his son’s football game. Now, Shaw is reportedly in the ICU.

As of Thursday morning, the 33-year-old Shaw is in the medical ICU at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital. However, for the time being, his condition remains uncertain. What exactly happened to Shaw is also still unclear.

Multiple former players have come out on social media, asking for prayers for the former Gamecock quarterback. That includes from Mike Davis, who wrote, “Prayers up for Connor Shaw!”

Connor Shaw’s son is nine years old. At the time of the emergency, he was coaching his son’s team. Multiple people who were there say that he collapsed and multiple people said at the time that he had to leave the field in an ambulance.

From 2010-13, Shaw was a star quarterback for the Gamecocks. While there, he would set the South Carolina wins record by a quarterback while totaling 6,074 yards and 56 touchdowns over his career. His best year, statistically, was his senior season. He threw for 2,447 yards and 24 touchdowns, to one interception that year. Then, he capped it off by winning the Capital One Bowl MVP when he threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns while adding a receiving touchdown and a rushing score. In 2021, he was selected for the Gamecocks’ Athletics Hall of Fame.

In 2014, Shaw went undrafted. He had brief stints in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns and Chicago Bears before moving on in 2016 and beginning a coaching career.

In 2018, Connor Shaw joined Furman as tight ends coach. That was for one season. Then, in 2020, he spent the last three games as the South Carolina quarterbacks coach. In 2020, he would also serve as the Director of Player Development at South Carolina. Then, in 2021, he would serve as the team’s Director of Football Relations. However, he has been out of college coaching since then.

Connor Shaw and his wife, Molly, have lived in Lexington in recent years. However, they have since moved their family Upstate. It remains to be seen how much information becomes public about the medical episode that he’s going through. Regardless, the hope is that he’s going to be able to battle back from it, get out of the ICU, and get back to coaching his son’s football games.
