A former SEC coach who spent time at Florida and Mississippi State, Dan Mullen was let go by the Gators during the 2021 season. For 2022, at least, he’s taking a step away from coaching and into the studio, where Mullen will be an analyst for ESPN.

Now, Dan Mullen is getting into the prediction game, offering his take on where everyone is going to finish in the SEC West. Having been an SEC head coach for better than a decade, he should have a good idea of what to expect for the conference.

Here are Dan Mullen’s SEC West picks:

1. Alabama

2. Texas A&M

3. Arkansas

4. Ole Miss

5. Mississippi State

6. LSU

7. Auburn

Dan Mullen simply tweeted out a graphic of his predicted standings. That means that everything about his reasoning is going to be something that people would have to guess. In the best division in college football, every team has talent and could win any given week.

Of course, at the top, Dan Mullen didn’t feel any need to get creative. He chose Alabama, just like everyone else seems to be. Texas A&M in second place is interesting, but only in the sense that Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher feuded this offseason and it’s time for the Aggies to present a real challenge to win the conference.

At the bottom, Dan Mullen slotted in Auburn. The Tigers are coming off a 3-5 season in SEC play and an incredibly difficult offseason where there was a failed attempt to find cause to fire head coach Bryan Harsin. Just ahead of them is LSU, which also has problems that need to be addressed in Brian Kelly’s first season in Baton Rouge.

Also of note, Mississippi State, one of Dan Mullen’s old teams, is set to finish fifth. Now coached by Mike Leach, that would be a relatively disappointing finish for the Bulldogs.
