WATCH: Dan Mullen sings Rocky Top ahead of Tennessee vs Florida, talks Vols fans

This weekend SEC fans will be treated to one of the fiercest rivalries in the conference with a matchup between the Tennessee Volunteers and the Florida Gators. Former Florida head coach Dan Mullen has extensive knowledge of the rivalry, both as a former assistant under Urban Meyer and has the head coach of the Gators. He recently spent some time talking about the passion of Tennessee fans with College GameDay’s Rece Davis and Pete Thamel on The College GameDay Podcast. He also discussed how “catchy” of a tune “Rocky Top” was and that each year following Florida’s matchup against the Vols, the song would be stuck in his head for two weeks.
Check out the video below as Mullen even performs a very poor rendition of “Rocky Top”, the Tennessee fight song. His edition of the fight song is from 1:14-1:27.

Clearly, he needs plenty of practice on how to sing “Rocky Top” and the lyrics. Jokes aside, Mullen has a great amount of respect for the Tennessee fan base because he knows the passion of their fans is what separates them. On the College GameDay podcast, Thamel asked Mullen about what he thought separates the Tennessee football fans from other college football fan bases.
“The passion of them. They have not been on top or even really been in the mix as a top program for quite a while. But every time you go in there, I mean, the stadium’s packed. It’s gonna be deafening. I think it’s one of the most impressive stadiums in all of college football. I go back, I remember going there as a grad assistant when I was at Notre Dame. You walk in and I mean it is a cathedral of a stadium. 360 degrees around you,” Mullen said.

“You look up at the press box is about 100 yards long with all the stories high. It’s impressive that the fan base is that passionate, win or lose, wherever they’re at. They’re gonna show up and they’re gonna support the team. And they’re gonna create a hostile environment,” Mullen said.
Tennessee and Florida will square off this weekend from scenic Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. EST on Saturday, Sept. 24.
