2025 4-star TE Davon Mitchell sets commitment date

Los Alamitos (Calif.) four-star tight end Davon Mitchell is announcing his commitment on July 8. He will choose between Alabama, Miami, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M.

Mitchell is the No. 24 overall prospect and No. 2 tight end in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 2 player in California.

Prior to his pledge, the 6-foot-3, 250-pound recruit will visit three schools, per On3’s Chad Simmons. They are Alabama (June 9), Oklahoma (June 15-17) and Miami (June 21-23).

“There is an order to these schools, but each school still has a shot,” Mitchell told Simmons on May 1. “I like the relationships I have built with the coaches. Each school features the tight end in the offense and they all stand out to me.”

Mitchell breaks down his top five schools

Alabama: “Alabama is where I am from and they are a great program. I have visited a couple of times. I have a strong relationship with coach Joe Cox and I have always been a fan. I was at the Iron Bowl and they do great things. They develop tight ends really well and teach them to block and catch well.”

Miami: “Miami wasn’t even on my list when I had a top 11. I went there for a visit and that changed things for me. They have produced some great tight ends and I liked their practice a lot. They see the tight end a lot, they use multiple tight ends on the field at the same time and I feel they would get me the ball.”

Oklahoma: “Oklahoma is a school I am familiar with. I have been there four or five times, so I feel comfortable. The atmosphere is strong. I like the coaching staff and they always feature their top tight ends. Coach Brent Venables and coach Joe Jon Finley have really recruited me hard, so I have some strong relationships too.”

Texas: “I have visited Texas a few times and they use their tight ends well in coach Steve Sarkisian‘s offense. They have a lot of great players, they run a strong offense and I am good with coach Jeff Banks. Texas has a lot of good things going right now.”

Texas A&M: “Texas A&M is a school I have visited once, but I like what I saw. I lived around there for a while, they have great facilities and the coaches have shown a lot of interest in me. They used Donovan Green a lot last year and they have shown they like to get the ball to their tight end. Coach Jimbo Fisher is very involved with the offense and they are looking to build on that this season.”
