Desmond Reid injury update: Pitt RB carried off field vs. Notre Dame, heads to tent

Pitt running back Desmond Reid left Saturday’s game against Notre Dame with an apparent leg injury. He was carried off the field in the third quarter and immediately headed to the tent for further evaluation.
Reid caught a 27-yard catch on fourth down to extend Pitt’s drive, but stayed down on the field after the play. As the ABC broadcast headed to commercial, teammates had to carry him off and he went straight to the injury tent once he got to the sideline.
Reid was in the midst of a huge day at the time of his departure. He led Pitt with six catches for 63 yards, as well as 12 rushing yards on the day, as the Panthers trailed Notre Dame 28-3. It looked like they were going to score to end the drive, but Raphael Williams’ knee was down short of the goal line after a lengthy review, resulting in a turnover on downs.
Reid has dealt with injuries throughout the year notably went down with one in the Backyard Brawl against West Virginia. Heading into the matchup with Notre Dame, Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi said the standout running back was back to full strength and would be good to go for a massive game against the Fighting Irish at Acrisure Stadium.

“Dez being back, again, he’s as healthy as he’s been,” Narduzzi said. “He wasn’t healthy going into the Florida State, to be honest with you. He’s practiced more this week than he has. He came out a couple of days not spatted up. I’m like, ‘Where’s your spat at?’ ‘Coach, I’m getting it.’ ‘I’m not gonna spat you up myself.’ But he’s looked good, so he’s different. He poses different problems for defenses. We gotta keep him healthy, too. That’s the other, that’s the next thing.”
Pitt didn’t score on the drive during which Desmond Reid left, but the Panthers got on the board shortly after. Raheem Bines intercepted CJ Carr and ran it for a pick-six, making it a 28-9 Notre Dame lead. However, Fighting Irish safety Adon Shuler intercepted the two-point conversion attempt in the end zone and ran it all the back back – giving the Fighting Irish two points to make it 30-9 after a wild sequence.
