Four-Star SG Dorian Jones requests release from Ohio State, reopening recruitment

Dorian Jones, a four-star shooting guard in the 2025 class, has requested his release from Ohio State and is reopening his recruitment, a source told On3.
The 6-foot-3 senior out of Richmond Heights High School in Cleveland committed to the Buckeyes last July before signing in November.
Last week, Jones made an Instagram post saying he would not be enrolling at Ohio State for the upcoming season.
“I wanna start off an I want to thank my Ohio State basketball family and coach Diebler for their support,” Jones wrote on Instagram. “As I reflect on my development, this next year is an opportunity for me to grow more prior to college. I won’t be enrolling at Ohio State this year but I look forward to continuing our relationship.”
Before choosing Ohio State, Jones also considered Michigan, Missouri, and Rutgers.
With Jones on the move, Jake Diebler’s 2025 high school class stands at two incoming traditional freshmen — four-star PF A’mare Bynum (No. 58 NATL) and three-star PG Myles Herro. The Buckeyes are also set to bring in four transfers in Wright State’s Brandon Noel (19 PPG), Santa Clara’s Christoph Tilly (12.5 PPG), Baylor’s Joshua Ojianwuna (7.4 PPG), and Indiana’s Gabe Cupps. Joining the group is new Ohio State commit Mathieu Grujicic, an international prospect.

Jones, a Cleveland native, is the nation’s No. 93 overall prospect, No. 26 shooting guard and No. 1 recruit in Ohio in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Jones Scouting Report
“Dorian Jones’ reputation is as a shot maker and a defensive stopper. On the defensive end, he uses his plus wingspan to get in the passing lanes and he has quick feet which he uses to guard in the open floor. Offensively, Jones is still developing. He is a streaky shooter as his shooting base can get knocked off center when he shoots off movement or steps into a shot. His release can also flatten out off the catch. He fills the lanes quickly in transition and attacks the rim with purpose in the open floor. Would like to see him continue to develop his handle in the half-court, as well as his decision making with the ball in his hands. Jones has played on a big stage for some time now, and he has continued to answer the call. There is some twitchy athleticism in there and some of his flashes are intriguing. Now it’s about finding consistency and developing his skill set.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
