The February dead period is now in the rear view, meaning recruiting is set to pick up via a busy spring around the country.

Recruits are setting their visit schedules — and that now includes Roswell (Ga.) Fellowship Christian four-star offensive tackle Josh Petty. The elite prospect has a busy March ahead.

Petty tells On3’s Chad Simmons that he has locked in visits to Clemson (March 12), Georgia Tech (March 15), Georgia (March 16), Auburn (March 19) and Florida State (March 29).

“(Petty) is hoping to visit over half a dozen schools this spring, lock in official visits in June, then see how he feels about a commitment. Petty will commit when he feels ready, and he is not set on a summer decision,” Simmons wrote of Petty at the end of February.

The 6-foot-4, 265-pounder has already locked in an official visit with Clemson for May 31. Dabo Swinney and the Tigers have kept the foot on the gas for Petty and clearly a top contender for his pledge heading into the next phase of his recruitment.

“I like Clemson a lot,” Petty told On3 in January. “Coach Swinney is a great coach. He’s been there for years and he’s shown that he can do it. He’s won national championships and done it with different teams, but he’s done it at the same program. He’s got that loyalty that I really appreciate.”

In-State Georgia also competing for Petty’s pledge

Georgia is another school to watch. Not only do the Bulldogs have the in-state advantage, but the pedigree in Athens is something that Petty isn’t able to ignore when comes to looking for his home at the college level.

“Georgia’s an in-state school for me,” Petty said. “It’s a great program. They’ve won national championships. They have a great coach and great development there. Georgia being in-state is nice. It’s easy to stay home. It’s a great school.”

In total, Petty is approaching 40 offers from Power Four programs. His recruitment has continued to have a southern flavor, as the top schools in the SEC and ACC continue to battle for his pledge. The upcoming slate of trips could help Petty begin to whittle his list further.

“Committing is hard,” Petty said. “I’ve heard that from everybody. A lot of people tell me to go with my heart and that wherever feels like home probably is home. I’ve got that feeling about a couple schools, so I just have to figure out which one feels the most like home.”

He is now the No. 26 overall prospect and No. 5 OT in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 6 player in Georgia.
