Seth Greenberg shares thoughts on Juwan Howard-Greg Gard altercation

Sunday’s altercation between Michigan head coach Juwan Howard and Wisconsin head coach Greg Gard following the Big Ten Conference men’s basketball matchup between the two teams is being heavily discussed all over the country. While many people are arguing who was in the wrong, who was in the right and what should happen next, ESPN’s Get Up! show discussed it all Monday morning.

With host Mike Greenberg and college basketball analysts Jay Bilas and Seth Greenberg on the show, the duo broke down the situation and shared their thoughts on what led to the situation and how it should be handled.

From Seth Greenberg’s perspective, he thinks it all could’ve been avoided if Gard hadn’t stopped Howard in the postgame handshake line.

“When those two guys cross, that’s what you call a blow-by,” Greenberg said. “Howard didn’t want to deal with Greg Gard. Greg Gard’s got to respect that. On the other hand, obviously cause and effect of what happened after is totally unacceptable. I’ve given a lot of thought to this, Greeny, and I told my daughter, ‘Maybe we should get rid of the handshake lines. … How about we just ask appropriately? How about we lead as opposed to follow? How about we set an example?

“What happened yesterday was unacceptable, it was embarrassing to both institutions and obviously escalated to the point where people were in danger. We just set a really bad example.”

While it’s unknown what will happen as a result of Sunday’s incident, it’s pretty clear that the Big Ten Conference and NCAA will be handing down punishments – especially for Howard, who threw the first punch that started the ruckus.

Things continue to look worse for Juwan Howard after his Sunday altercation with Wisconsin coach Greg Gard. A new video provided clear audio of what the Michigan basketball coach said to Gard prior to throwing a punch at him following a 77-63 loss.

“I’ll remember this shit,” Howard can be heard saying in the video. Gard then placed his hand on the Wolverines’ coach in attempt to calm him down.

“Don’t f****** touch me,” Howard responded, shoving Gard off of him.
