Former Alabama, Wake Forest player Davin Cosby Jr. involved in serious car accident, hospitalized

Former Alabama and Wake Forest guard Davin Cosby Jr. was reportedly involved in a “serious car accident that required two emergency surgeries,” according to a GoFundMe page to help his mother pay for his medical expenses.

The GoFundMe page revealed Cosby’s surgeries were successful, but he now faces a long road to recovery “as he works toward returning to full strength and mobility.” The accident reportedly occured on Sunday, July 13. Cosby is currently on the Kennesaw State basketball team, listed as a junior for the 2025-26 season, after transferring from Wake Forest this offseason.

“On Sunday, July 13th, Davin Cosby, Jr. a talented Division I college basketball athlete — was involved in a serious car accident that required two emergency surgeries,” the GoFundMe page reads. “Thankfully, the surgeries were successful; but Davin now faces a long and challenging road as he works toward returning to full strength and mobility.

“Davin has always embodied resilience, discipline and determination both on and off the court. Now, he need the unwavering support of his community more than ever,” the GoFundMe page reads. “[…] His devoted mother has paused her work to be by his side throughout recovery, providing vital care, encouragement, and emotional strength. She is self-employed and has halted her business to care for her son.”

The 6-foot-5, 215-pound Cosby appeared in 17 games with nine starts, averaging 5.6 points with 23 rebounds and 11 assists during the 2024-25 season with the Demon Deacons. Prior to that, Cosby spent the 2023-24 season at Alabama as a freshman, where he appeared in 22 games for the Crimson Tide and averaged 3.6 points in 8 minutes per game. He scored a season-high 15 points on five made 3-pointers against Ole Miss in just 13 minutes of game time.

Cosby was a four-star prospect from Word of God Christian Academy in North Carolina, where he was the No. 114 overall player and No. 18 shooting guard in the Class of 2022, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking.
