Chicago DL King Liggins gives commitment to Bret Bielema and Illinois

Illinois picked up a commitment from Chicago (Ill.) Brother Rice defensive lineman King Liggins on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound Liggins and his 80-inch wingspan chose to play for head coach Bret Bielema and his staff over the likes of Iowa, Iowa State, Indiana, Minnesota, Michigan State, Kansas, Kansas State and Wisconsin.

“Just felt like home,” Liggins told On3. “Also who wouldn’t want to create a legacy at their home school?”

Liggins becomes commit No. 15 for Bielema and company in the 2026 cycle. The momentum from the program’s fourth 10-win season in program history last fall is resonating with top targets. Liggins being the latest.
“They are building something special with guys In the state of Illinois, also guys around the country and I want to be a part of it,” Liggins said.

Liggins believes Illinois can continue rising among the ranks in college football.

“They have the right people on staff there and they are bringing in great players also,” Liggins said. “Their program is like a family.”

On3 tabs Liggins as the No. 64 defensive lineman in the country. The On3 Industry marks him as the No. 20 overall prospect in the state.
