Jeremiah McClellan injury update: Oregon receiver heads to locker room after hit on shoulder

Following a completion for a 20-yard gain, Oregon receiver Jeremiah McClellan hit the ground hard. He was shaken up and immediately went to seek medical attention on the sidelines.
The talented receiver was one of three players to record a catch on Oregon’s opening drive of the game against USC on Saturday afternoon. He landed awkwardly, though, seeming to bring his shoulder down hard on the turf.
The CBS broadcast crew provided an immediate update on his status. Sideline reporter Jenny Dell weighed in first.
“Yeah just a quick update on receiver Jeremiah McClellan, you saw that the trainers were looking at that left shoulder area,” Dell said. “He just went to the locker room, he was grabbing at that shoulder. I’ll update you guys when I have more information.”
Jeremiah McClellan would be a big loss for Oregon in the passing game. He has logged 19 catches for 266 yards and two touchdowns prior to today’s game.
Oregon is already down multiple receivers, something the broadcast crew pointed out. So if McClellan is out from here it would be a major blow.
“All right, Jenny,” analyst Brad Nessler said. “He’s kind of hanging his arm there, and you saw that’s where he landed on the tackle.”

The other veteran voice in the booth also chimed in. Gary Danielson outlined how serious the injury to Jeremiah McClellan could be.
“That would be maybe a fourth wide receiver that’s out,” Danielson said. “Evan Stewart, remember, isn’t playing this year. That’s now No. 5 receiver they were counting on at the beginning of the year.”
So who will step up with Jeremiah McClellan out for the time being? Nessler provided his best guess.
“It’s probably going to be Cooper Perry, another freshman, if McClellan can’t come back,” Nessler said.
Perry has logged 10 catches for 25 yards so far this season. Most of his touches have come on plays near the line of scrimmage.
