Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt put a couple of SEC teams, Alabama and Ole Miss, on blast in defense of Indiana following the Hoosiers’ first round CFP loss.

There were arguments for Alabama and Ole Miss, plus South Carolina, to be in the playoff over Indiana after a bad loss to Notre Dame. But Klatt wasn’t having any of that talk.

He then brought up Alabama and Ole Miss’ schedules and why they shouldn’t have been in the playoff.

“Some incredibly disappointing takes out there! (Indiana) certainly didn’t play their best while (Notre Dame) was terrific,” Klatt wrote on Twitter. “However, IU played better than (Alabama) getting their doors blown off by 6-6 OU (and Ole Miss) giving Kentucky their only P4 win.”

Indiana didn’t beat anybody noteworthy this season, at least in terms of the rankings. But, Indiana did win 11 games this year to get into the dance.

Notre Dame just outplayed them while other teams sat at home with three-plus losses.

“It’s a great honor to obviously be a part of what’s to come, and I don’t want to downplay that, but tonight is about tonight and about what this team did to achieve the outcome that we all desired,” head coach Marcus Freeman said of the win over Indiana. “I want them to celebrate that. I want them not to look past tonight. Celebrate tonight. Celebrate this victory that they worked tremendously hard to achieve and obtain. Then I told them they’ll have (Saturday) off. They can take one day off, and we’ll get them back on Sunday. Then, we’ll start thinking about the Sugar Bowl and the opportunity we have at hand.

“You don’t get enough time in life and enough time in situations like this not to enjoy it. I was reminded of that by a couple of people I talked to, but also just talking to the team.  Enjoy this. Enjoy this. Don’t look ahead. Enjoy this, and then we’ll move forward.”

Indiana will now have to reset after an 11-2 season and see if they can improve in 2025. It was a great first season under Curt Cignetti, but the schedule question will definitely come up this offseason.
