The 121st edition of the Red River Rivalry will kick off from the Cotton Bowl tomorrow, with No. 6 Oklahoma vs. Texas in Dallas. Now, ahead of the latest matchup in the shootout, we have one final update to the SEC Availability Report, with this game’s report specifically being of high interest this week considering John Mateer is still on it.

The Southeastern Conference released their latest edition to the injury report tonight for the seven games in league play on Saturday, including Red River between the Sooners and Longhorns. That comes after the initial release on Wednesday and, when it came to this game report, a very notable update to it on Thursday.

With that, here are those updates to the SEC Availability Report for OU and UT. Mateer is still listed as questionable for OU.

Oklahoma Sooners

  • TE Kade McIntyre – Out
  • OL Troy Everett – Out
  • OL Jacob Sexton – Out
  • OL Jake Taylor – Out
  • OL Logan Howland – Out
  • WR Keontez Lewis – Questionable
  • QB John Mateer – Probable

Texas Longhorns

  • RB CJ Baxter – Out

From Wednesday to Thursday, Texas did not have an update on any of their three listed, all of whom are key names, in Baxter and Livingstone on offense and Muhammad on defense. Oklahoma, though, had two updates, with Howland going from out to at least doubtful and, of course, the one that everyone is talking about.

John Mateer, the Heisman-level quarterback for the Sooners, injured his right hand on September 20th, with him having surgery on it on the 24th. It was expected that the injury would keep him out for multiple weeks, with him currently being only two weeks post-op, as Oklahoma had a bye week before winning over Kent State. But, this week, reports on his rehab trended in the right way, to the point where Mateer was listed as questionable for the game before being updated to be probable on Thursday night. Pending how how his hand reacts, Mateer seems to be trying to give it a go in the rivalry game tomorrow, which would be quite the outcome considering how long he was anticipated to be out for and how that now affects the season outlook for OU.

Regardless of who plays, this game is always a must-watch when these two programs get together at the State Fair. That should be the case again in this year’s game as Oklahoma (5-0) tries to remain undefeated while Texas (3-2) is in a must-win coming into Red River.
