Jordan Rodgers defends Miami's resumé for College Football Playoff against Notre Dame: 'It shouldn't be a question'

The biggest debate so far in the rankings for the College Football Playoff is Notre Dame vs. Miami. But Jordan Rodgers says it shouldn’t be based on that on-field result between the Fighting Irish and the Hurricanes.

Rodgers was the next expert to make that case, as he did this earlier morning in an appearance on ‘Get Up.’ He said it should be out of the question that Miami, having won 27-24 in their meeting in the season opener, should be in the CFP over Notre Dame, although, for the duration of the rankings, that hasn’t been the case. The Irish are now at No. 10 and the Hurricanes are at No. 12 in the latest edition from Tuesday.

“It’s Miami, and it shouldn’t be a question,” Rodgers stated. “I don’t know how the committee hasn’t lumped these two teams together already because of their resumés, because of their record to then force the head-to-head conversation. But Miami beat this football team. I don’t care if it was Week 1.”

Much of this has come to a head with the two teams finishing with the same record of 10-2, which now has Miami in the same vicinity of the ranking as, yet not ahead of, Notre Dame. But, with both playing a third of their season against similar opponents in the ACC, Rodgers added that that’s another argument to be made for ‘The U,’ with the Hurricanes having won over NC State, Pittsburgh, and Stanford by a total of 100 points in margin, which averages to 33.3 points per win. Notre Dame won over those teams by a total of 80, averaging out to a margin of 26.7.

“They also have four common opponents. Three of those, Miami has won by a larger margin of victory than Notre Dame,” Rodgers said.

A lot of arguments are being made both ways in the ongoing debate, with just two days before the playoff field is set and neither team playing again this weekend. However, with the duo as close as it is, and the two teams likely to get closer pending the result of the Big 12 Championship, Rodgers doesn’t see how it could be justified to not have the Hurricanes in over the Irish.

“Miami absolutely should be in ahead of Notre Dame, by merit of the head-to-head, especially if they’re right next to each other, because BYU gets kicked out of that spot,” Rodgers said. “I think it’s got to be Miami.”
