Army delivered one of the top Power Four upsets of Week 2 of the college football season on Saturday night, knocking off Kansas State 24-21 in Manhattan. The win for the Black Knights comes after a Week 1 loss to FCS Tarleton State.

On top of the win, Army is also pocketing a seven-figure payday. Kansas State will pay Army a $1.175 million guarantee for the game, as FBSchedules previously reported. The Wildcats paid $475,000 for last week’s matchup against FCS North Dakota. Kansas State remains winless against Army.

For comparison, NIU made $1.4 million for its trip to Notre Dame last season. The Huskies stunned the Fighting Irish, who went on to make the national championship game.

The loss leaves Kansas State looking for answers. The Wildcats nearly lost to North Dakota last week, needing a late comeback to hold on for the win. Army quarterback Cale Hellums, making his first career start, rushed for a 14-yard touchdown with 2:52 to play to give the Black Knights the three-point lead.

The Wildcats tried to put together a game-winning drive, but quarterback Avery Johnson was picked off with 1:52 to play. Kansas State is now 1-2 on the season and opens Big 12 play next week against Arizona.

Johnson, who entered the season as a Heisman Trophy contender, was 15 of 25 for 172 yards and a touchdown in the loss. Kansas State allowed 332 yards on the defensive side of the ball, including 237 yards on the ground.
