There is a long history between Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin and Georgia coach Kirby Smart. That goes back to their days together as assistants at Alabama, under Nick Saban and has since extended to competing against one another as SEC coaches. That would be renewed on Saturday for a thriller that Smart and the Bulldogs won.

Within that relationship, Kiffin normally plays the role of troll. He did that again during the game, joking that he was clapping and not calling a timeout with a referee. That was, of course, a callback to Smart telling officials he wasn’t calling a timeout and that he was clapping, essentially saving a timeout, against Auburn a week ago.

Of course, the trolling had started earlier in the week. He may have even crossed a line, taking a shot at Smart’s weight, saying, “I don’t know, that’s a good question. I walked by the TV and saw his press conference today, so I don’t think he’s burning too many calories.”

If there is a credit to Lane Kiffin, he’s managed to stay in good shape. Even at 50 years old, he’s been on top of his fitness. That’s, in part, a credit to the hot yoga he likes to do. He likes it so much, he even posted about it before Ole Miss and Georgia kicked off, writing, “Thanks guys for an amazing workout this morning!!”

Then Georgia won the game, and it appeared Smart saw the hot yoga post. Remembering the shot that Kiffin took at him over his weight in the lead-up to the game, he took the opportunity to tease him back. Closing out his postgame press conference, Smart left the media gathered laughing as he called out Kiffin’s yoga.

“I do want to thank Lane, though,” Kirby Smart joked. “End of the game, he gave me some hot yoga tickets. So, I appreciate that.”

Smart got the win, so he gets to have that last laugh. For a while, though, it wasn’t a given Georgia would win. For three quarters, it was a back-and-forth affair. Then, as it turned to the fourth quarter, something snapped and Ole Miss couldn’t consistently move the ball anymore. The Bulldogs didn’t run into those same issues, winning the quarter 17-0 . That would be enough to come back and win 43-35.

With that, both teams moved to 6-1 on the season. Kiffin will look to bounce back against Oklahoma next week, another massive test. Meanwhile, Smart wants to keep rolling into the bye week and then against Florida. If all goes well for both of them, they could easily meet again for the SEC Championship Game.
