Herbstreit’s top performing coaches from Week 5:

Illinois’s Bret Bielema tops Herbie’s list following a 34-10 stomping of Wisconsin where his defense allowed just two rushing yards on 24 carries. Illini running back Chase Brown rushed for 129 yards and quarterback Tommy DeVito rushed for three scores in the victory.

Oklahoma State has crept itself into the AP Top 25 poll’s top-10, and has settled at No. 7 heading into Week 6 after a convincing 36-35 victory over then-No. 16 Baylor. Despite secondary woes against the Bears, the Cowboys are solidifying themselves as potential College Football Playoff material with their performances improving each week.

Wes Goodwin, the only coordinator to crack this week’s list, helped coach Clemson to a top-10 victory over NC State in Death Valley Saturday. Star quarterback Devin Leary was held to one touchdown, and the Clemson front seven was unstoppable, allowing the Wolfpack 1.6 yards per carry on the night.

The Horned Frogs obliterated Oklahoma 55-24 at home this week, and Herbstreit is going Sonny Dykes the praise him and his team deserve. Now ranked No. 17, TCU is set to battle this season’s Cinderella, No. 19 Kansas.

Kansas State hasn’t missed a beat since being upset by Tulane during Week 3. Defeating a No. 6-ranked Oklahoma team in Norman and Texas Tech in consecutive weeks earns the Wildcats a spot on the list as well.

Chip Kelly and the UCLA Bruins are 5-0 for the first time since 2013, and have a huge test at home against reigning Pac-12 champions in No. 11 Utah, while Rice picked up a big conference victory over UAB to round out Herbie’s top performing coaches from this past week.
