The Lane Kiffin saga is heating up as a decision on his future seems imminent.

Per Yahoo SportsRoss Dellenger, LSU executives and Kiffin’s representatives held a call following the Tigers’ 17-13 loss to No. 8 Oklahoma on Saturday. The University is sending two planes to Oxford on Sunday for Kiffin, his family, and others.

Kiffin was set to meet with Ole Miss AD Keith Carter this afternoon. That meeting has now come and gone, although a decision has not yet been revealed.

Lane Kiffin and athletic director Keith Carter concluded their meeting some 90 or so minutes ago,” ESPN‘s Marty Smith reported around 9:40 p.m. ET during Saturday night’s Alabama/Auburn game. “The sentiment here in Oxford, Mississippi right now is that Kiffin’s unwillingness to commit is an indicator of his desire to go.”

Lane Kiffin has been highly sought after this season following a remarkable year with Ole Miss. He has the Rebels 11-1 and on the cusp of a College Football Playoff bid.

Things reportedly went south with potential Florida negotiations earlier this week, leaving LSU as the most likely potential destination for the Ole Miss coach. But the logistics of a potential move, should Kiffin accept the Tigers gig, have remained a hurdle.

“I’m told if he wanted to stay he would have already said so,” Smith continued. “One sticking point still being considered, I’m told: If he did leave, whether or not he’ll coach the Ole Miss Rebels in the College Football Playoff.”

On3’s Chris Low reported on Friday that Kiffin was either staying at Ole Miss or going to LSU. Florida is no longer a factor in Kiffin’s decision on where he will coach the 2026 season.

“I’ve got to do some praying and figure this thing out,” Kiffin said after the Egg Bowl on Friday night. “I live life one day at a time.”

Kiffin said that he would seek out advice from former Alabama head coach Nick Saban and Las Vegas Raiders coach Pete Carroll in making his decision. Kiffin was an offensive coordinator for Saban in Tuscaloosa and worked for Carroll at USC.

LSU has pitched Kiffin on the history of winning in Baton Rouge. The Tigers have won three national titles under three different head coaches in the last 20 years. LSU is also in a talent-rich area, with the state of Louisiana constantly producing five-star recruits.

On3’s Pete Nakos also contributed to this report.
