Lane Kiffin on postgame trash talk with David Stone: ‘That’s just me’

After a win over No. 13 Oklahoma on Saturday, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin was quick to find someone who had been talking plenty of trash during the game. Sooners defensive lineman David Stone just happened to be near Kiffin as he readied for a postgame interview.
So as the cameras turned to Kiffin, they caught him firing back a bit. Instantly the clip went viral on the Internet.
“You’re a little quieter now than before,” Kiffin said. “… This guy yelled at me during the game, like, five times how great they were and we can’t score on them.”
Lane Kiffin obviously had the final word, and Stone eventually faded into the background of the shot as Kiffin conducted his postgame interview with the TV broadcast. Then the coach faced questions about the interaction in his postgame press conference with reporters.
They asked about the exchange with David Stone. Kiffin had to ask to verify who it was.
“Is that No. 0?” he asked. “OK. Just making sure. I was like who’s David Stone? Umm, that’s just me.”
Lane Kiffin has certainly never been shy, especially when it comes to talking. He was happy to explain what he was thinking after the game in the interaction with Stoner.

“I mean he was talking the whole game to me, and I did a good job I felt of not talking back,” Kiffin said. “He just kept telling me, ‘You ain’t going to score and all this.’ I didn’t try to go find him, he was just walking by. I just saw him, so… that’s just kind of me.”
Stone had a decent game against Ole Miss, racking up three tackles, including two for a loss. But the Rebels were able to pull in front and then held defensively, handing the Sooners the loss.
For his part, Lane Kiffin was gracious after the win. Even with Stone talking trash for most of the afternoon.
“Guy’s a great player, man,” Kiffin said. “I’m sure he’s really enjoyable to coach.”
