Lane Kiffin takes shot at Brent Venables for claiming Oklahoma has better team after Week 9

Lane Kiffin took a shot at Brent Venables after the latter said Oklahoma was the better team, despite losing to Ole Miss at home. Kiffin and the Rebels won 34-26 in an effort that the coach said wasn’t close to their full potential.
Simply put, Kiffin called it an “interesting take” from Venables, whose Sooners are now 6-2 on the season, with both losses coming in the SEC. Ole Miss is onto South Carolina this week, but Kiffin still took his jabs at Venables after hesitating at first.
The likely soon-to-be sought after coach was on fire Monday at his press conference after giving a modest answer before referencing some past results under Venables’ watch. Safe to say, this round goes to Kiffin.
“Interesting take. That’s a hot take. Better team? I wouldn’t have thought that people watching would say that. You know, I felt that one, we won at their place and whether that as a defensive head coach you would normally wish for, and won by eight points. And I think we left a lot out there. I think we should have won by a couple (of) scores. So I don’t know how he evaluated that game, that they were the better team. I mean, we (had) way more yards, 21 first downs to 14, and we played, what, 87 plays of offense? And they had one sack and didn’t force any turnovers. That’s an interesting take, but whatever he needs to say.”
That’s when Kiffin continued before being asked more questions. He paused multiple times but had to finish his glorious answer, just to stir the pot.
“Maybe they (were) the better team last year too when we beat them,” Kiffin said. “Sorry … Maybe he had the better team in Oklahoma when we beat them 55-19 in the national championship, maybe. Maybe he had the better team at Clemson when we beat him 45-40 in the national championship at Alabama. Next question, my bad. You got me on that.”

Kiffin referred to when USC beat Oklahoma in the BCS National Championship held at the Orange Bowl in January of 2005. Venables was the Oklahoma defensive coordinator while Kiffin was USC’s passing game coordinator and wide receiver’s coach.
Not only that, Kiffin brought up Alabama’s 45-40 win in the College Football Playoff National Championship in January of 2016. Kiffin was the Crimson Tide OC and Venables was the DC at Clemson.
There’s no love lost between Kiffin and Venables it seems. For context, here is Venables’ full quote postgame.
“I felt like we were the better team,” Venables said. “But at the end of the day, it’s a game of performance and executing and I thought they out-executed us.”
But for now, Ole Miss and Kiffin are better than Venables and Oklahoma. We feel that is a fact.
