The wrath of Lane Kiffin after a win is endless, and unfortunately for Brian Kelly, he is the latest victim of the Ole Miss coach’s trolls. Kiffin and the Rebels defeated Kelly’s LSU team by a score of 24-19 over the weekend and it’s led to a lot of trash talking on social media.

Another such instance came Monday morning, when Kiffin tweeted a photo of Kelly and Rebels QB Trinidad Chambliss together when Kelly was the coach at Notre Dame. Chambliss was just a kid at the time, likely at some sort of youth camp put together by the Fighting Irish.

But while Kelly was clearly aware of Chambliss from a young age, he missed the opportunity to recruit him to his team. The coach paid the price for that mistake, as Chambliss tossed for 314 yards and a touchdown with one interception in addition to 71 yards rushing against him on Saturday.

At least out of high school, no major programs were recruiting Chambliss. That led to the QB eventually signing with Division II Ferris State, where he played four seasons and won three national championships.

After tallying more than 3,000 yards of total offense and 51 total touchdowns in 2024, Chambliss caught the attention of Kiffin. The coach recruited him to Oxford, but he still began the 2025 season as the backup quarterback to Austin Simmons.

An ankle injury to Simmons allowed Chambliss the opportunity to start in Week 3 against Arkansas, however. He lit up the Razorbacks for 353 yards passing and 62 yards rushing with three total touchdowns and no interceptions.

Chambliss also started the next two games as Simmons continues to recover from his injury. So far in his three starts, Trinidad Chambliss has thrown for 974 yards and five touchdowns to only one interception. He’s also shown dynamic ability as a runner with 258 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

With the LSU offense struggling on Saturday, it’s safe to say Brian Kelly would like to have a player of Chambliss’ caliber on his roster. Of course, Lane Kiffin had to rub in the fact that he doesn’t, adding insult to injury after the loss.

Lane Kiffin shuts down question on whether Trinidad Chambliss has earned starting job

Chambliss’ play early on has many wondering whether he has done enough to remain the starter even when Simmons is fully healthy. However, Kiffin would not give an answer when asked following Saturday’s win.

“We got a bye week coming up at 5-0 and 3-0, first place in the conference,” the coach said. “It’s a good problem to have. I don’t have that answer right now and I don’t need to have it right now.”

By comparison, Simmons has 580 yards passing and four touchdowns to four interceptions across two starts. He also entered briefly for two plays against Arkansas in Week 3 after Chambliss exited.

“We have two really good quarterbacks and that’s a really good thing to have because I think you see around the country people, usually when they lose their quarterback, their team changes a lot,” Kiffin said. “Austin got hurt and we’re still able to play the way that we’ve played. It’s a really good problem to have.”
