LaNorris Sellers injury update: Latest on South Carolina quarterback

South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers exited Saturday night’s loss to Vanderbilt in the first half with a head injury. Sources tell On3 that the star quarterback suffered a concussion that will be monitored over the next 48 hours.
His status for next week’s game at Missouri remains unclear. Sellers went down after taking a big hit from Vanderbilt linebacker Langston Patterson in the final two minutes of the second quarter. Patterson was ejected from the game for targeting on the play.
LaNorris Sellers is viewed as a top-10 pick in April’s NFL draft and has posted 476 total yards and three touchdowns in three games this season. If Sellers cannot play against the Tigers in Week 4, backup Luke Doty is likely to get the starting nod.
Doty replaced Sellers against Vanderbilt, finishing 18 of 27 for 148 yards with an interception and a fumble. The sixth-year senior has made nine career starts. It marked South Carolina’s first loss to Vanderbilt since 2008.
“Injury-wise, don’t have an update for you on LaNorris,” South Carolina coach Shane Beamer said after the game.

The win broke a 31 road-game losing streak to AP top 25 teams. For South Carolina, the Gamecocks drop to 2-1 on the season and are now entering the brunt of their SEC schedule. South Carolina plays at Missouri, then hosts Kentucky on Sept. 27 before a bye in the first week of October. The Gamecocks visit LSU on Oct. 11, coming off the bye.
Beamer shared his frustration about the targeting call in his halftime interview.
“I asked him as soon as it happened if [they were] looking at it for targeting,” Beamer said. “For our quarterback to be lying there on the ground like that, he probably got hit in the head. And then, for whatever reason, it took them a while to buzz down.
“So, I don’t know what’s going on in Birmingham or wherever they look at it, but I thought it was pretty obvious.”
