Louisiana Police release surveillance video of crash that led to Kyren Lacy arrest

Last weekend, the attorney for the late Kyren Lacy released video evidence appearing to exonerate the former LSU star of an alleged fatal hit-and-run that resulted in the death of 78-year-old Herman Hall of Thibodaux, La. in December 2024. Lacy died by suicide in April following another run-in with police.
Lacy’s attorney, Matthew Ory, released video last Friday that showed Lacy’s lime green Dodge Charger was approximately 70 yards behind the scene at the moment of impact that took Hall’s life during a roughly 45-minute sit-down with HTV’s Martin Folse. Ory has long maintained Lacy’s innocence in the accident and has been critical of the Thibodaux police’s handling of the incident.
“That’s the beauty of the investigative report that I now have my hands on,” Ory told Folse. “We know from data that Kyren Lacy did, in fact, pass four cars. There’s no disputing that. Further north, Kyren Lacy passed four cars. However, he was back in his lane of travel 92.3 yards back in his lane behind Mr. Hall. At the time of impact, he’s 72.6 yards behind the vehicles at the time of impact. Key [words] – behind the vehicles. That is not how this story was ever painted. Never.”
On Tuesday, the Louisiana State Police released surveillance video of the moments just before the fatal crash on Tuesday, as well as witness accounts of the incident, in an attempt to counter Ory’s narrative that Lacy was not responsible for the fatal crash, according to TMZ. In the newly-released video, Lacy’s Charger can be seen speeding down the opposite lane of traffic on the two-lane road, passing three cars and an 18-wheeler before driving out of frame of the camera as a loud crash is heard off-screen.
The Louisiana State Police has long maintained Lacy’s reckless driving and speeding forced a female driver in a Kia Cadenza to swerve to avoid Lacy and into a head-on collision with Hall’s Kia Sorrento, resulting in his death. As part of their Tuesday drop, LSP also released new body cam footage from the scene of the accident, including one of the female victim speaking with police while lying on the ground and telling officers she swerved to avoid a Dodge that was weaving through traffic. Another officer’s body cam video showed several bystanders telling police “the green Charger caused all this,” according to TMZ.

“He went around the truck, … and she had no choice, she hits the pole (to the right) or she hit (Hall),” one witness said, according to video released by LSP.
Lacy was charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run and reckless driving following a police investigation. In the charging document, the Lafourche (La.) Parish Sheriff’s Office said Lacy was “illegally passing the other vehicles, (when) the driver of a northbound pickup truck abruptly braked and swerved to the right to avoid a head-on collision with the approaching Dodge” in a press release.
The 24-year-old Lacy was scheduled to appear before a Baton Rouge grand jury in mid-April, one week before the 2025 NFL Draft, but the former LSU receiver committed suicide April 12 following a car chase with Houston-area police.
