Alabama beats LSU, improves to 8-1 on season

In its first game back on the field since LSU fired Brian Kelly, the Tigers visit No. 4 Alabama. The Crimson Tide is coming off a bye, looking to continue its march through the SEC and punch a ticket to the College Football Playoff in Kalen DeBoer’s second season.

Interim LSU head coach Frank Wilson had two weeks to get the Tigers up to return to the field. LSU is 5-3 and has lost three of its last four.

Trying to rally LSU, quarterback Michael Van Buren dropped back to pass but was sacked by Alabama’s Yhonzae Pierre, who forced a fumble that was recovered by London Simmons at the LSU 26-yard line. The strip sack sealed the Alabama win.

Sources have told On3 that the current expectation is that star wide receiver Ryan Williams will be available on Saturday night against LSU. He’s been listed as probable on the SEC availability report this week.

Linebacker Whit Weeks is not expected to play against Alabama, sources tell On3. He’s been viewed as questionable and doubtful most of the week. He’s missed the Vanderbilt and Texas A&M games as he works through a leg injury. Freshman offensive tackle Carius Curne is on track to play after previously appearing on the injury report. He’ll play a key role with Tyree Adams still sidelined.
