A huge ACC rivalry game will take center stage in Week 6. Miami will travel to Tallahassee to take on Florida State in a doozy of a showdown.

According to BetMGM, the Hurricanes are a 5.5-point favorite over the Seminoles, and the total is set at 54.5 points. Ahead of all of the action, Pete Thamel and Rece Davis of the College GameDay podcast locked in their predictions.

“I think Miami can control the game, and I think they win a low-scoring game,” Thamel stated. “I think this is like a 17–10. I think [Tommy] Castellanos struggles against a higher class of defense, and I think that Miami sort of shortens the game, runs the ball, kind of uses the smash-mouth identity that they’ve found, and Carson Beck can make the plays on third down.”

No qualms from Davis on this matter. He agrees with Thamel, thinking Miami can escape its rival’s house with a win on Saturday.

“I think we’re going to have to find some games we disagree on,” Davis responded, picking the Hurricanes. “I think that Miami is built to be able to limit what the Florida State offense can do. They’re not going to shut them down. I mean, Gus Malzahn is always going to find a way to pop plays, and they will. But I think Miami — I’ve got Miami ranked No. 1.

“Doesn’t mean they’re head and shoulders above everybody else in the country. I don’t think that. I don’t think they leave the state of Florida until November. They certainly leave a comfortable environment this week, and it will be very uncomfortable and incumbent on Carson Beck not to make big mistakes and generate more energy in the stadium, and to give Florida State short fields with that running game. Can’t do it.

“Make them go the long way. Give Bain and Mesidor time to operate and time to make them work their way down the field. And I think Miami ends up winning the game and covering.”

Now it’s up to Miami to prove Davis and Thamel right — or for Florida State to flip the script in what promises to be a heated ACC clash. Whoever comes out on top will grab the inside track in the conference race and plenty of bragging rights to go with it.
