A lot of change happened this afternoon up in East Lansing, with the firing of Jonathan Smith and the reported quick hiring this afternoon of Pat Fitzgerald. Now, the first change to the roster has come for Michigan State with an announcement by RB Makhi Frazier.

Frazier intends to enter his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal. He and his representation made that known, with reporting now shared this evening by On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

“BREAKING: Michigan State starting RB Makhi Frazier plans to enter the @TransferPortal, per his agent @coachzwill,” posted Fawcett.

Frazier will leave after being the leading rusher this season, despite missing three of the last four games, for Michigan State. He posted 116 carries for 520 yards, averaging 57.8 per game at 4.5 per carry too, and a pair of touchdowns, which brings him to 123 carries for 541 yards and the pair of rushing scores through two seasons spent with the Spartans.

A native of McKinney, Texas, Frazier played his high school football at McKinney. He was a three-star prospect there as part of the 2024 recruiting cycle. He also ranked as a Top-150 RB in the class and a Top-250 player out of the state of Texas. That’s according to Rivals’ Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Frazier was originally committed to Oregon State, but decided to follow Smith to Michigan State and was his first signing out of high school in his now just two-year tenure with the Spartans.

Again, much is set to change as early as this week for Michigan State, with the aftermath still of the firing of Smith as well as the hiring needing to become official with Fitzgerald. But, roster-wise, the Spartans already have one decision made, with Frazier, their top back this season, being their first transfer expected, as he plans to enter his name upon the window’s opening on January 2nd.
