The Texas Longhorns are in search of back-to-back top 5 recruiting classes under Steve Sarkisian. One of the keys to building the momentum to achieve the goal is winning in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

I’ve logged a new On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine pick for the Longhorns to land a commitment from wide receiver Johntay Cook II. There have been multiple sources with close ties to the On3 Consensus 4-star relay that Cook continues to be a heavy lean to Texas with a decision inching closer and closer.

Cook, the nation’s No. 36 overall player in the country in the On300, made an official visit to Ole Miss over the weekend with Michigan scheduled for June 20-22. The possibility remains that Cook will also make his way to Austin June 17-19 when No. 1 overall Arch Manning makes his official visit to Texas. A June official visit to Oregon is also in play. Texas A&M also remains in the mix for the talented route runner with high-end footwork.

Cook is the No. 47 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus. The On3 Consensus is a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 8 wide receiver, and the No. 7 junior in the state of Texas.

Johntay Cook II scouting summary:

Smooth-moving receiver who is one of the better route-runners in the 2023 cycle. Shows the ability to tempo and toggle speeds within his routes. Can win at all levels of the field. Has long arms with a 6-foot-4 wing-span at 5-foot-11.5. The length helps create a large catch radius. Productive and efficient as a junior while facing top competition at one of the top talent-producing high school programs in Texas. Scored 18 touchdowns on just 38 receptions as a junior. Will need to continue improving on his reliability as a pass-catcher and eliminate concentration drops.
