NFL QB Blaine Gabbert helps save four lives in helicopter crash

On Thursday, Tampa PD responded to a helicopter that crashed into the water with four people inside. When the officer responded, the helicopter was submerged 200 yards from shore. According to NFC South reporter Greg Auman, the people inside were saved by an unlikely hero, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Blaine Gabbert.

Blaine Gabbert was among the first people to respond to the incident, even before the police got there. He got to them on his jet ski, helping the four people inside the helicopter get out.

“We’ll get more details today, but Bucs quarterback Blaine Gabbert was one of the first to respond on his jet ski Thursday evening when a helicopter went into the water off Davis Islands. All four aboard survived, with Gabbert’s help,” Greg Auman tweeted.

According to one of the people in the helicopter, three men approached on two jet skis to aid them in getting out of the helicopter and then slowly took them back to shore. Blaine Gabbert, who lives on Davis Island near where the crash occurred, was one of the men who came to help.

Along with Blaine Gabbert, his brothers Tyler Gabbert and Brett Gabbert helped him to make the rescue. They played for UCF and Miami (OH) respectively.

Blaine Gabbert has played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers since 2019, backing up Tom Brady for most of his time there. Tampa Bay is Gabbert’s fifth NFL team after being a first-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2011. Prior to that, he was a star for the Missouri Tigers.

During his career, Blaine Gabbert has thrown for 9.273 yards and 50 touchdowns. He has primarily been a backup quarterback. Now, he can add saving someone from a helicopter crash on a jet ski in Florida to his resume.
