Ohio State dominates Michigan, wins 27-9 in The Game

One of the biggest games of the college football season, The Game returned to Ann Arbor this year. No. 1 Ohio State looked to secure a spot in the Big Ten Championship with a win over its vaunted rival, while No. 15 Michigan tried for a fifth straight victory in the series.

Both teams have new quarterbacks under center this year. Julian Sayin is leading the charge in Ohio State’s high-powered offense and Bryce Underwood continues to improve after arriving at Michigan as the crown jewel of the 2025 recruiting cycle. They will be at the forefront of the matchup, which is sure to have the eyes of the college football world once again.

Julian Sayin finds Carnell Tate for 50-yard TD

After the two teams traded punts, Julian Sayin got the big play. He hit Carnell Tate for a 50-yard touchdown to make it a 24-9 Ohio State lead with 7:35 to play in the third quarter. It’s Tate’s eighth receiving touchdown of the year and Sayin’s third TD pass of the game.

Michigan RB Jordan Marshall is “unlikely” to return in the second half against Ohio State, per the FOX broadcast. He appeared to aggravate his shoulder injury in the first quarter.

Jeremiah Smith TD puts Ohio State on top

Facing 4th and 5, Ohio State chose to go for it. Jeremiah Smith broke free in a one-on-one matchup and caught the 35-yard touchdown pass from Julian Sayin, putting the Buckeyes on top 10-6 with 11:44 to play. The call stood after review to make sure Smith had possession as he broke the plane.

Through one quarter of The Game, Michigan held a 6-3 lead over Ohio State. Both teams totaled 85 yards of offense in the first 15 minutes, and the Buckeyes will have 2nd and 7 to start the second quarter.

Ohio State gets field goal after false start

Facing 4th and Goal from the 1-yard line, Ohio State looked to go for it, but a false start moved the Buckeyes back five years. That meant they settled for a 24-yard field goal, which Jayden Fielding sent through the uprights to cut the Michigan lead to 6-3 with 4:33 left in the first quarter.

Jordan Marshall once again broke off a big run to get Michigan into the red zone, but the Ohio State defense held strong and forced another field goal. Dominic Zvada was good from 25 yards to extend the Wolverines’ lead to 6-0 with 9:42 to play in the first quarter.

After an incomplete pass on the game’s first play, Julian Sayin threw an interception on a pass intended for Jeremiah Smith. Jyaire Hill was there to pick it off and give Michigan the ball at the Ohio State 39-yard line.

Michigan gets opening-drive field goal

Jordan Marshall started things off with a 36-yard run, but Michigan’s opening drive stalled just outside the red zone. Dominic Zvada then drilled the 45-yard field goal to give the Wolverines a 3-0 lead on the first possession.
