Ohio State wide receivers Carnell Tate and Jeremiah Smith are expected to miss Saturday’s game against Rutgers, sources tell On3. Tate and Smith are two of the top wideouts in college football and are both working through injuries.

Tate has not played since the Purdue game on Oct. 25, as he works through a calf injury. Smith was questionable last week and played, but was seen walking off the field with a limp following the UCLA win.

“They’re working hard to get back on the field,” Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said this week. “That’s it. I mean, that’s what they’re focused on. I don’t have much more of an update other than that. … I can tell you that they’re in great spirits. The medical staff is working hard. We’ll take it day-to-day and see how they come in each day.”

Smith has 69 catches for 902 yards and 10 touchdowns in 10 games with a 13.1 yards per catch. A Heisman Trophy contender, he’s emerged as one of the top players in college football following his breakout true freshman season in 2024.

Tate has 39 catches for 711 yards and seven touchdowns in eight games this season. Another weapon in the passing game for Ohio State, he’s viewed as one of the best wide receivers available in the 2026 NFL Draft.
