Oklahoma and Kansas will meet for what is likely the final time for the foreseeable future in Week 9 before the Sooners leave the Big 12 for the SEC next season. It will mark the end of a long history of meetings between the two schools, who have been members of the same conference dating back to the Big Eight.

Oklahoma has long dominated the series, with a 80-27-6 all-time record against the Jayhawks. Now they’ll aim to get in one last win as they enter the contest at 10.5-point road favorites according to FanDuel. The initial over/under for the game is set at 63.5.

Coming off of a massive 34-30 victory in the Red River Shootout against Texas in Week 6, the Sooners had a bye before hitting the field to take on UCF on Saturday. They surprisingly struggled against the former team of quarterback Dillon Gabriel, narrowly escaping with a 31-29 win.

OU found itself trailing 23-17 entering the fourth quarter but used a pair of late touchdowns to pull away for good. First, Gabriel connected with Drake Stoops on an 11-yard go-ahead score to give the Sooners a one-point advantage with 9:16 remaining. Running back Gavin Sawchuk then broke free for a 30-yard touchdown on the next drive to give Oklahoma some cushion.

Gabriel finished the game 25-of-38 passing for 253 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Oklahoma maintained its unbeaten record, improving to 7-0 and still sits alone as the only remaining undefeated team in Big 12 play.

Kansas is coming off of a bye week after dropping a road contest to Oklahoma State in Week 7. The Jayhawks entered the fourth quarter of that contest with a 32-27 lead before giving up 12 unanswered points to the Cowboys to suffered their second loss of the season.

The status of quarterback Jalon Daniels will be one storyline to watch entering the game. Daniels has sat out the past three games with a back injury as Kansas has gone 1-2 in those contests. Jason Bean has stepped up his his absence to throw for 635 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions. His best performance came in last week’s loss to Oklahoma State as he finished with 410 yards, five TDs and a pair of picks.

Kansas has not beaten Oklahoma since 1997, and if it hopes to snap that streak will likely need Daniels to get healthy. We’ll see whether the bye has provided him enough time to recover and be ready to go.

Kickoff between the Sooners and Jayhawks is set for 11 a.m. CT on Saturday in Lawrence.
